A true story….

     
         I was shopping at walmart one day and a guy around my age approached me. He said that I looked familiar as if he knew me from school or something. He asked what I did for a living and after I answered. He started to tell me he was part of a big company and was looking for new partners. The way he was talking really made me interested, so we exchanged numbers. The fun part comes next (hope you catch the sarcasm)…the guy calls to schedule a meeting with me to tell me more about this “company”. 

        We meet up at a local coffee shop and he brings a small brochure. I was ready with questions and eager for answers about this “company” that sounds so great to be a part of. Every question I had, he dodged it by saying “you should come to one of the company meetings and find out for yourself” He wouldn’t even tell me the name of this mysterious “company” Reluctantly I accepted and ended up going about a week later. The place of this “company” meeting was at a 3 star hotel in a small crowded room. Getting the picture? 

        A young guy speaks about how he was introduced to this “company” and how he is close to making to a fortune with this “company” After writing stuff on the white board with a black marker he introduces the company called “Quixtar” (a sister company of Amway) He then goes over the game plan by getting six other people to dish out $200 and then those six will do the same building the downline for you. He said once you reach like the 6th level you start making a profit. (What a joke...put a lot of effort in hopes to reach the 6th level to break even)

        I was ready to leave and never to look back but I am a nice guy so I waited till the meeting was over. I remember looking around and saw familiar faces. Guys and girls I went to school with getting brain washed to join a MLM company in hopes of becoming rich one day. After the meeting I tried to dash out of there without anyone paying attention to me but I got approached by one of the speakers. We shake hands and then he tells me he is looking forward to have me on board. I stood there silent for a moment before saying I have a call to take so he excused me and I left the place asap. 

        An hour or so later I got a text message from the guy who referred me to this lame meeting. I wish I still had the text message so I could post it on here word for word. Here is what I remember of the message “Hey Sergey, I am glad you got to come…I hope you enjoyed the meeting and are ready to start...I wanted to talk to you after the meeting but I noticed you were gone before I could….I hope we can get together soon so I can go over more stuff and help you anyway I can to succeed with this company” 

        I ignored his message and thought that would be the end of it. Nope I was wrong....I got a few more text messages over the course of the week. I also got a few missed calls from him. I figured this guy would not leave me alone unless I told him I was not interested (obviously he didn’t get the clue when I didn’t respond to any of his text messages or returned his phone calls) So I got the courage to text him and tell him I was not interested. 

        That was the end of it...I was relieved that I was no longer going to be bugged by this guy. At the same time I started to think how many young people are getting brain washed into thinking they will become rich with this company. It made me very upset and made me think how I could tell others to stay away or they would regret spending $200 to join which they probably would never earn back.
